Don Butterfield: The Real Green Party Candidate

It looks like I’m running for NY State Assembly in AD73. It wasn’t something I had been contemplating, with all the other responsibilities I have, but when a person claiming to be a Green Party member called and asked me to sign a petition to get him on the ballot back in June, it set off a chain of events that led to my running.

As it turns out, the petition I was asked to sign is called an Opportunity to Ballot (OTB). As it was explained to me, it’s most often used by other political parties to obtain the ballot line of a party for a primary election in a particular district that was either running one candidate with no opposition or wasn’t running any candidate.
