My Choice for Governor and Lt. Governor of New York: Howie Hawkins and Brian Jones

Green Party of New York State 2014 statewide slate nominated

Green Team 2014 congratulates the statewide slate that was nominated at the GPNYS Convention in Troy this afternoon. The entire slate consisting of candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, Comptroller and Attorney General was nominated by acclimation.

Here is the slate:

Governor: Howie Hawkins

Howie was the GP candidate for Governor in 2010. With the nearly 60,000 votes he received in that election, GPNYS gained ballot status. Howie was the main organizer of a meeting in Massachusetts in the 1980s that led to the formation of the Green Party in the U.S. He’s a lifelong activist, Teamster, and driver for UPS.

Lt. Governor: Brian Jones

Brian is an educator who lives in Washington Heights. He’s been active in fighting for public education, getting rid of Common Core, and ending the privatization of education through charter schools.

Comptroller: Theresa Portelli

Theresa worked in civil service for 35 years in the South Bronx and in Albany. In 2013, she was the GP candidate for Mayor of Albany, receiving 5% of the vote. She served on the Albany school board and has counseled troubled, at risk youth in her long career.

Attorney General: Ramon Jimenez

A long time Bronx resident, Ramon is a successful lawyer with an office in the South Bronx. He’s also an ardent activist who has fought for,and is still fighting for the rights of the people, particularly those in disadvantaged neighborhoods. He was the Freedom Party candidate for Attorney General in 2010.

We believe this slate, along with our other local candidates for Congress, State Senate and State Assembly, has the potential to galvanize voters and build a truly independent and progressive coalition.
